Ok, though I only had came to be a spectator of the beat battle, God
turned it into a night of Young Nik as well. I had a ball at Sputnik,
well once i touch the mic it's all fun and good times after
that (laughing). This girl beat 5 guys for the trophy in sandals, a fendi skirt and pearls.

I came , I saw, I conquered (smile).

Thanks a lot to my friend face who brought me down and the whole staff that
night for allowing me to take over ya'll mic, muahzz.

THE FINALS: KASPER & MIND DESIGN FLIP BEAT IN 15 MINUTES

The Sputnik Comrade Cup Beat Battle debuted on Saturday June 21st with a packed house. Two New Jersey Producers, Kasper and Mind Design, made it to the FINALS. For the FINALS, both producers had to sample Curtis Mayfield's "Stoned Out Of My Mind". MIND DESIGN played the keys LIVE during the FINALS but KASPER wasn't impressed and took home the 8 1/2 FOOT TROPHY, $500 CASH and SONY Wireless Headphones.

Kasper nor Mind Design knew what song they would be given. Fifteen minutes later...this is what the FINALISTS created:

Opening up a show is the best slot to be in as a group
that's up-and coming.

We take pride in setting the tone for the show. I aint gonna lie itwas hot as balls up there. I was taking many gulps of water on stagewhen it wasn't my verse to spit. The Sputnik (Comrade Cup) Beat Battle was an exciting experience which really brought out the best of all the producers competing...Despite the fact the Mr. Walt was ready to send me home after my first track, the crowd felt I needed to stick around and win the whole thing, lol!

Shouts to Mind Design, he kept it interesting till the last minute! The trophy was a bit over the top but I managed to find a place for it in my studio, wowzers. I look forward to defending the title at the next challenge, lets see what happens! Overall, the jam was dope.

I had a lot of fun playin my stuff for everyone and havin everyone show the love back. 1st place would've been sweet, but I aint buggin over it. Shouts to Kasper for playin his cards right and takin the crown. Seemed like everyone was really diggin his shit. All the love and respect from the judges and the crowd afterwards was enough of a prize for me, and to be able to politic wit one of my favorite producers (ILLMIND) was real dope. Cats recognized the realness and thats all i asked for. I aint gonna lie tho, I fooled myself in that last round. I thought I had it for a sec.. haha. maybe next time...

BROOKLYN, JUNE 23, 2008 Tim "EX-P" Grant along with SPUTNIK debuted the SPUTNIK COMRADE CUP BEAT BATTLE hosted by Sadat X of Brand Nubian this past Saturday. Mr. Walt of Da BeatMinerz, Illmind (G-UNIT, MONEY MANAGEMENT along with Sadat X judged the competition. SPUTNIK, located in Brooklyn, is most notably known for supporting "True School Hip-Hop" with the likes of Big Daddy Kane, KRS-ONE, Brand Nubian, DJ Premier, DJ Evil Dee and Craig G of the Juice Crew gracing their stage.


The summer night began with an OPEN BAR courtesy of BONG SPIRIT VODKA; which packed the house with over 100 people. Hip-Hop's best talent were on display at the SPUTNIK COMRADE CUP BEAT BATTLE. Pharoah Monch made an appearance as Producers: Deal, DJ Priority, Eas, Kasper, Lanstarr, Mind Design, Classic Beatz, Porto Roc and Purple Floyd set up to vie for the 8 ½ Foot Trophy, $500 Cash and SONY Wireless Headphones. New Jersey Hip-Hop group Brokn English kicked off the night in style as they rocked the crowd with "Real Hip-Hop" and Brooklyn's own SKYZOO performed music from his latest mixtape Cornerstore Classic REMIXED. Sadat X demanded attention as he freestyled to begin the SPUTNIK COMRADE CUP BEAT BATTLE. Exclusive video footage powered by POWER STREET TALK DVD captured the 9 producers as they battled. The SPUTNIK COMRADE CUP BEAT BATTLE began with the Battle for the Last Spot EXCLUSIVE ROUND as two Producers, Kasper and Porto Roc, played their best to stay in the competition. Kasper furthered in the competition as judges eliminated producers through various rounds: Signature Round (Unique Sound/Style), 90s Remix Round (Using Any NJ Artist or Group), Boom Bap Round and Club Round. The finals consisted of two New Jersey Producers, Kasper and Mind Design, as both created a beat on the spot in 15 minutes using Curtis Mayfield's "Stoned Out of My Mind". Illmind, Mr. Walt and Sadat X crowned Kasper the CHAMP of the inaugural SPUTNIK COMRADE CUP BEAT BATTLE. Kasper has worked with BET, VH1, Refugee Camp, Dead Prez and has a Gold Plaque for Juelz Santana's What The Game's Been Missing.
